Travel from Delhi to Jaipur

The distance between New Delhi and Jaipur popular as the Pink City is approx. 270 km. This is one of the most popular travelling sectors of India as this forms part of the famous Golden Triangle Tour (Delhi-Agra-Jaipur) as also most of the Rajasthan tours start from Jaipur. Delhi and Jaipur are well connected through various means of travel.


By Bus

Travelling to Jaipur by bus is pocket-friendly and allows you to plan a holiday at low budget. A number of regular, air-conditioned and deluxe buses run by The Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) from Jaipur to major cities of the nation. For reaching Jaipur from Delhi, you can either book buses from private operators online or travel by State run buses which start operating from around 6am every day and you shall get a bus after every one hour.

You have the option of taking a Standard/ A/c / Deluxe or a Volvo bus as per the availability of bus at that time and your budget. State run buses start from Bikaner House near Connaught Place. By Train

Shatabdi Express is the most convenient train for travelling to Jaipur from New Delhi. The train is air-conditioned and provides a comfortable journey and also links Jaipur with major cities of India like Mumbai, Jodhpur, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Kolkata, Haridwar, Jammu, Ludhiana, Lucknow, Pathankot, Bhopal, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Patna, Chennai and Goa.
A Luxury train, the Palace on Wheels allows you to experience the royalty of Jaipur also while travelling towards the city. There are popular trains like Jaipur Express, Ajmer Shatabdi, Adi SJ Rajdhani and Pune Jaipur Express connecting the city with the important cities across the nation, details of which can be obtained from IRCTC website.

By Car/ Self Drive

If you are the one who loves to travel at their own pace, then nothing is better than travelling by Car. The Delhi-Jaipur National Highway covering a distance of 260 kilometres provides a comfortable ride and services like food and other amenities are available on the route. The path moving towards Jaipur is also linked to National Highways 8, 11 and 12. The time duration to cover the road journey is about 6 hrs depending on the traffic. The road conditions are not very good at the moment, but a much delayed National Highway between Delhi to Jaipur is expected to be completed in a few months, which will reduce the travel time drastically and you may reach Jaipur in about 3 hours.

If you do not own a car in Delhi, then hiring from  Self-Drive car providers is also a good option. Otherwise, cabs on hire are also available, which, from New Delhi, costs anywhere between 8000 to 14000 rupees depending upon the number of days and the type of Car for a round trip.

By Air

The most convenient way to reach Jaipur is to take a flight from New Delhi. The airport is situated in Sanganer, which is only at a distance of 12 kilometres from the Jaipur city. It is interlinked with most of the cities across the world including international cities like Dubai, Sharjah and Kuala Lumpur with numerous airlines. The airport has both domestic and international terminals. It handles daily flights from famous carriers like Air India, Oman Air, Jet Airways, IndiGo and SpiceJet. Return Air Fare from Delhi to Jaipur is around 8000 rupees.

Safety tips while staying in Jaipur

  • Beware of the pickpockets at any crowded and noisy place.
  • Take care of your belongings especially in the transport center and the City Palace.
  • Scamming is not so uncommon in Jaipur.
  • Ignore the guides coming to you for helping to venture out in the city because they will end up demanding huge sums and this may also be compromising on your safety.
  • Do not listen to the touts offering you best hotels and jewellery shops in the city, lest you may end up in some shabby place buying jewellery and gems which could be fake.
  • For women travelling solo, its better to take a full or half day tour through buses. Most of the hotels in Jaipur offer this facility. Just check with the hotel reception a day before.
  • Do not buy any gems and jewellery unless it comes with HallMark and authentication certificate. Check about issuing authority online.
